This edition of Rainlore’s World of Music is a listening journal: a place for notes on recordings, musical detail and the connections that send a listener looking for another record.

A name with a history

The domain was previously associated with music writing by Richard Sharma, also known as Rainlore. The KlezmerShack link archive records the earlier site and its return on this domain. That history explains the subject of this collection; it does not make the new writing here his work.

We do not present ourselves as Richard Sharma, claim his reviews as our own, or imply an ongoing relationship with artists mentioned in historical material. The listening guides currently published here are newly written.

What belongs in the journal

A description should point to something a reader can hear. An opinion should be recognisable as an opinion. Recording details should come from identifiable credits rather than guesses about a musician’s intentions.

This is not a concert promoter or a booking service. Historical dates and availability should not be treated as current event information. Use the performer or venue’s current channels before making plans.

Help make the notes more useful

If a title, credit or link needs attention, use the correspondence page. A specific page address and an identifiable source are more useful than a general request to change a description.
