DJ Ritu and A World in London are back! At least, in a temporary form until BBC London 94.9 can be made to see the grave error of their ways.

And The Rest...

This week's news from the campaign trails is a little more sparse than usual as both campaigns have been extremely busy working out strategies and consolidating the campaigns.

The Save' Folkwaves' on BBC Radio Derby campaign held a protest meeting outside BBC Nottingham on Monday, 21st February which was well attended and good-spirited. The Folkwaves folks are also frantically busy setting up a web site for the campaign, so as to better cater for people who do not wish to join Facebook. Although the site as such is still very much under construction, a discussion forum is already functional and you are cordially invited to join.

The Save DJ Ritu's A World in London show on BBC London campaign of course diversified outside Facebook quite a while ago already, and you can also find out more and follow the AWiL campaign via the
Save AWiL Blog
, as well as
On twitter.
There also is a Save AWiL Online Petition - please sign this now if you haven't already done so!

The case for these campaigns and their importance cannot be overstated. There is a lot more at stake here than just getting the superb and sorely missed DJ Ritu's A World in London, Mick Peat & Lester Simpson's Folkwaves and the other axed 'specialist music' programmes reinstated. Beyond this, what is also at stake is the very nature - and possibly the very existence! - of BBC Local Radio and diversity of programming and 'specialist music' programming on the whole.

Thus, I can only urge anybody and everybody with the slightest interest in general world music, folk music and other 'specialist music' broadcasting, and diversity in music broadcasting on BBC Local Radio who hasn't already done so, to join these vital campaigns and join the fight for 'specialist music' programming and diversity on BBC Local Radio. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Also please bear in mind the SOS Skues on Sundays campaign. BBC East has cut popular presenter Keith Skues' show on Sundays to two hours from four and re-scheduled his show to an 11pm to 1 am late-night slot. The campaign aims to return Keith Skues to his 9pm-1am slot. BBC East includes the following local radio stations: BBC Radio Norfolk; BBC Radio Suffolk; BBC Essex; BBC 3CR (3 Counties Radio, covering Herts., Bucks., and Beds.) and BBC Radio Lincoln.

'The listeners, united, shall never be defeated!'

Let the BBC know that it really is your BBC - yours, the licence payers, not the management's, board's or trust's!
