One of the most gifted and outstanding flautists in any genre of our time, as well as an accomplished tsimblist and keyboard player, Adrianne Greenbaum was born to a musical family in Akron, Ohio. She is the granddaughter of a chazan (cantor) and daughter of a musically gifted mother.

Adrianne Greenbaum received her B.Mus. from Oberlin College Conservatory, and gained an M.M. from Yale University. She has taught at Wesleyan and Yale Universities as well as at Smith College, and is currently Associate Professor of flute at Mount Holyoke College. In addition, as a klezmer, she is also on the faculty at KlezKamp.

As a classical musician, Adrianne Greenbaum performed for many years with the NYC Ballet Orchestra and is currently Solo Flutist with the New Haven Symphony, Orchestra New England, and the Wall Street Chamber Players. Her prestigious recording credits include The Orchestral Music of Charles Ives: World Premieres and First Editions with Orchestra New England/Cond. James Sinclair, Broadway Cast Recordings of Heitor Villa-Lobos' Magdalena and Cole Porter's Fifty Million Frenchmen, and Keith Jarrett's acclaimed album Bridge of Light, with releases on the CBS Masterworks/Sony, Koch International, and ECM labels. Adrianne Greenbaum (flute) also features with Alissa Lieser (piano) on Sounds of America, an outstanding - and uncommonly representative - overview of 20th century American music.

In her parallel career as a klezmer, Adrianne Greenbaum has also played with klezmer band Kapelye, and with Yiddish vocalist Adrienne Cooper in performances at the International Jewish Festival in Amsterdam and New York City's Jewish Museum. In addition, she leads her own klezmer band, The Klezical Tradition, with whom she has recorded the album Family Portrait. Recently, Adrianne Greenbaum also released her solo album, FleytMuzik with Cookie Segelstein, Joshua Horowitz, and Marty Confurius, where she can be heard on 19th and early 20th century period wooden flutes. This last album is something of a milestone in the recording history of klezmer music in that it is the first recording of the modern era to feature the flute as the lead throughout - a common practice in European klezmer music until about the beginning of the twentieth century that had sadly been lost. Adrianne Greenbaum has successfully restored the flute to its former glory and position of prominence in klezmer music.

Whether as a classical or klezmer performer, Adrianne Greenbaum is an astoundingly gifted and sensitive flautist with a gorgeous, clear voice and flawless technique. Musicianship of this calibre and depth is not found every day. I think it safe to assert that Ms. Greenbaum is indeed a veritable phenomenon, the like of which has rarely been seen on the flute in our time.
